WHY ARE MUSLIMS DIVIDED INTO SECTS / DIFFERENT SCHOOLS OF THOUGHT?

Question:

When all the Muslim follow one and the same Qur'an then why are there so many sects and different schools of thoughts among Muslims?

Answer:

1.   Muslims Should be United

            It is a fact that Muslims today, are divided amongst themselves. The tragedy is that such divisions are not endorsed by Islam at all. Islam believes in fostering unity amongst its followers.

The Glorious Qur'an says: "And hold fast, All together, by the rope Which Allah (stretches out for you),  and be not divided among yourselves;" [Al-Qur'an 3:103]

Which is the rope of Allah that is being referred to in this verse? It is the Glorious Qur'an. The Glorious Qur'an is the rope of Allah which all Muslims should hold fast together. There is double emphasis in this verse. Besides saying 'hold fast all together' it also says, 'be not divided'.

Qur'an further says,

"Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger" [Al-Qur'an 4:59]

All the Muslim should follow the Qur'an and authentic Ahadith and be not divided among themselves.

2.   It is Prohibited to make sects and divisions in Islam

The Glorious Qur'an says: "As for those who divide Their religion and break up Into sects, thou hast No part in them in the least Their affair is with Allah: He will in the end Tell them the truth Of all that they did."  [Al-Qur'an 6:159]

In this verse Allah (swt) says that one should disassociate oneself from those who divide their religion and break it up into sects.

But when one asks a Muslim, "who are you?", the common answer is either 'I am a Sunni, or 'I am a Shia'. Some call themselves Hanafi, or Shafi or Maliki or Humbali. Some say 'I am a Deobandi', while some others say 'I am a Barelvi'.

3.   Our Prophet was a Muslim

One may ask such Muslims, "Who was our beloved prophet (pbuh)? Was he a Hanafi or a Shafi, or a Humbali or a Maliki?" No! He was a Muslim, like all the other prophets and messengers of Allah before him.

It is mentioned in chapter 3 verse 52 of Al-Qur'an that Jesus (pbuh) was a Muslim.

Further, in chapter 3 verse 67, Al-Qur'an says that Ibrahim (pbuh) was not a Jew or a Christian but was a Muslim.

4.   Qur'an says call yourselves Muslim

a.    If anyone poses a Muslim the question who are you, he should say "I am a MUSLIM, not a Hanafi or a Shafi". Surah Fussilat chapter 41 verse 33 says

"Who is better in speech Than one who calls (men) To Allah, works righteousness,  And says, 'I am of those Who bow in Islam (Muslim)?'

[Al-Qur'an 41:33]

The Qur'an says "Say I am of those who bow in Islam". In other words, say, "I am a Muslim".

b.    The Prophet (pbuh) dictated letters to non-Muslim kings and rulers inviting them to accept Islam. In these letters he mentioned the verse of the Qur'an from Surah Ali Imran chapter 3 verse 64:

Say ye: "Bear witness That we (at least) Are Muslims (bowing To Allah's Will)."  [Al-Qur'an 3:64]

5.   Respect all the Great Scholars of Islam

We must respect all the great scholars of Islam, including the four Imaams, Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Shafi, Imam Humbal and Imam Malik (may Allah be pleased with them all). They were great scholars and may Allah reward them for their research and hardwork. One can have no objection if someone agrees with the views and research of Imam Abu Hanifa or Imam Shafi, etc. But when posed a question, 'who are you?', the reply should only be 'I am a Muslim'.

6.   Some may argue by quoting the hadith of our beloved Prophet from Sunan Abu Dawood Hadith No. 4579. In this hadith the prophet (pbuh) is reported to have said, "My community will be split up into seventy-three sects."

This hadith reports that the prophet predicted the emergence of seventy-three sects. He did not say that Muslims should be active in dividing themselves into sects. The Glorious Qur'an commands us not to create sects. Those who follow the teachings of the Qur'an and Sahih Hadith, and do not create sects are the people who are on the true path.

According to Tirmidhi Hadith No. 171, the prophet (pbuh) is reported to have said, "My Ummah will be fragmented into seventy-three sects, and all of them will be in Hell fire except one sect." The companions asked Allah's messenger which group that would be. Where upon he replied, "It is the one to which I and my companions belong."

The Glorious Qur'an mentions in several verses, "Obey Allah and obey His Messenger". A true Muslim should only follow the Glorious Qur'an and the Sahih Hadith. He can agree with the views of any scholar as long as they conform to the teachings of the Qur'an and Sahih Hadith. If such views go against the Word of Allah, or the Sunnah of His Prophet, then they carry no weight, regardless of how learned the scholar might be.

If only all Muslims read the Qur'an with understanding and adhere to Sahih Hadith, Inshallah most of these differences would be solved and we could be one united Muslim Ummah

Nine Things That Will Disappear in Our Life Time   1. The  Post Office.  Get ready to imagine a world without the post office.  They are so deeply in financial trouble that there is probably no way to sustain it long term.  Email, Fed Ex, and UPS have just about wiped out the minimum revenue needed to keep the post office alive.  Most of your mail every day is junk mail and bills.    2. The Check.   Britain is already laying the groundwork to do away with checks by 2018.  It costs the financial system billions of dollars a year to process checks.  Plastic cards and  online transactions will lead to the eventual demise of the check.  This plays right into the death of the post office.  If you never paid your bills by mail and never received them by mail, the post office would absolutely go out of business.   3. The  Newspaper.  The younger generation simply doesn't read the newspaper.  They certainly don't subscribe to a daily delivered print edition.  That may go the way of the milkman and the laundry man.  As for reading the paper online, get ready to pay for it.  The rise in mobile Internet devices and e-readers has caused all the newspaper and magazine publishers to form an alliance.  They have met with Apple, Amazon, and the major cell phone companies to develop a model for paid subscription services.   4. The Book.  You say you will never give up the physical book that you hold in your hand and turn the literal pages.  I said the same thing about downloading music from iTunes.  I wanted my hard copy CD.  But I quickly changed my mind when I discovered that I could get albums for half the price without ever leaving home to get the latest music.  The same thing will happen with books.  You can browse a bookstore online and even read a preview chapter before you buy.  And the price is less than half that of a real book.  And think of the  convenience!  Once you start flicking your fingers on the screen instead of the book, you find that you are lost in the story, can't wait to see what happens next, and you forget that you're holding a gadget instead of a book.   5. The Land Line Telephone.  Unless you have a large family and make a lot of local calls, you don't need it anymore.  Most people keep it simply because they've always had it.  But you are paying double charges for that extra  service.  All the cell phone companies will let you call customers using the same cell provider for no charge against your minutes   6. Music.  This is one of the saddest parts of the change story.  The music industry is dying a slow death.  Not just because of illegal downloading.  It's the lack of innovative new music being given a chance to get to the people who would like to hear it.  Greed and  corruption is the problem.  The record labels and the radio conglomerates are simply self-destructing.  Over 40% of the music purchased today is "catalog items," meaning traditional music that the public is familiar with.  Older established artists.  This is also true on the live concert circuit.  To explore this fascinating and disturbing topic further, check out the book,  "Appetite for Self-Destruction" by Steve Knopper, and the video documentary, "Before the Music Dies."    7. Television.  Revenues to the networks are down dramatically.  Not just because of the economy.  People are watching TV and movies streamed from their computers.  And they're playing games and doing lots of other things that take up the time that used to be spent watching TV.  Prime time shows have degenerated down to lower than the lowest common denominator.  Cable rates are skyrocketing and commercials run about every 4 minutes and 30 seconds.  I say good riddance to most of it.  It's time for the cable companies to be put out of our misery..  Let the people choose what they want to watch online and through Netflix.    8. The "Things" That You Own.  Many of the very possessions that we used to own are still in our lives, but we may not actually own them in the future.  They may simply reside in "the cloud."  Today your computer has a hard drive and you store your pictures, music, movies, and documents.  Your software is on a CD or DVD, and you can always re-install it if need be.  But all of that is changing.  Apple, Microsoft, and Google are all finishing up their latest "cloud services."  That means that when you turn on a computer, the Internet will be built into the operating system.  So, Windows, Google, and the Mac OS will be tied straight into the Internet.  If you click an icon, it will open something in the Internet cloud.  If you save something, it will be saved to the cloud.  And you may pay a monthly  subscription fee to the cloud provider.  In this virtual world, you can access your music or your books, or your whatever from any laptop or  handheld  device.  That's the good news. But, will you actually own any of this "stuff" or will it all be able to disappear at any moment in a big "Poof?"  Will most of the things in our lives be disposable and whimsical?  It makes you want to run to the closet and pull out that photo album, grab a book from the shelf, or open up a CD case and pull out the insert.    9. Privacy.  If there ever was a concept that we can look back on nostalgically, it would be privacy. That's gone.  It's been gone for a long time anyway.  There are cameras on the street, in most of the buildings, and even built into your computer and cell phone.  But you can be sure that 24/7, "They" know who you are and where you are, right down to the GPS coordinates, and the Google Street View.  If you buy something, your habit is put into a  zillion profiles, and your ads will change to reflect those habits.  And "They" will try to get you to buy something else.  Again and again.    All we will have that can't be changed are Memories.

Praise be to Allaah, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allaah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allaah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allaah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
 
 
Bismillaah Walhamdulillaah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillaah

TEN THINGS WHICH NULLIFY ONES ISLAM
 
 
1. Associating partners with Allaah (shirk).
Calling upon the dead, asking their help, or offering them gifts or sacrifices are all forms of shirk.

  2. Setting up intermediaries between oneself and Allaah, making supplication to them, asking their intercession with Allaah, and placing ones trust in them is unbelief (kufr).

 3. Anyone who does not consider the polytheists (mushrikeen) to be unbelievers, or who has doubts concerning their unbelief, or considers their way to be correct, is himself/herself an unbeliever (kafir).

 4. Anyone who believes any guidance to be more perfect, or a decision other than the Prophets (saws) decision to be better, is an unbeliever. This applies to those who prefer the rule of Evil (Taghout) to the Prophets (saws) rule.
Some examples of this are:

 (a) To believe that systems and laws made by human beings are better than the Shariah of Islam;
for example,
That the Islamic system is not suitable for the twentieth century.
That Islam is the cause of the backwardness of the Muslims.
Or that al-Islam is a relationship between Allaah and the Muslim. It should not interfere in other aspects of life.
 (b) To say that enforcing the punishments prescribed Allaah, such as cutting of the hand of the thief or the stoning of an adulterer, is not suitable for this day and age.
 (c) To believe that it is permissible to give a rule from that which Allaah did not reveal in Islamic transactions or matters of law, punishments or other affairs. Although one may not believe such things to be superior to the Shariah he in effect affirms such a stand by declaring a thing which Allaah has totally prohibited, such as adultery, drinking alcohol or usury, to be permissible.
According to the consensus of the Muslims, one who declares such things to be permissible is an unbeliever (Kafir)

  5. Anyone who hates any part of what the Messenger of Allaah [saw] has declared to be lawful has nullified his Islam, even though he may act in accordance with it.


"This is because they hate what Allaah has sent down, so he has made their deeds fruitless"

(Surah Muhammad 47:9)
  6. Anyone who ridicules any aspect of the religion of the Messenger of Allaah [saw], or any of its rewards or punishments, becomes an unbeliever.
"Say: Was it Allaah, and His signs and His Messenger that you were mocking? Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after you had believed."

(Surah At-Tawbah 9:65-66)
  7. The practice of magic. Included in this, for example, is causing a rift between a husband and wife by turning his love for her into hatred, or tempting a person to do things he dislikes using black arts. One who engages in such a thing or is pleased with it is outside the fold of Islam.
" But neither of these two (angels, Harut and Marut) taught anyone (magic) till they had said, Indeed, we are a trial; then do not disbelieve.

(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:102)  8. Supporting and aiding polytheists against the Muslims.
"Whoever among you who takes them as allies is surely one of them. Truly, Allaah does not guide the wrongdoers."

(Surah Al-Maaida 5:51)
  9. Anyone who believes that some people are permitted to deviate from the Shariah of Muhammad [saw] is an unbeliever.
"And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will not be accepted of him, and in the hereafter he will be from among the losers."

(Surah Aal-Imraan 3:85)
  10. To turn completely away from the religion of Allaah neither learning its precepts nor acting upon it.
" And who does greater wrong than he who is reminded of the revelations of his Lord and turns aside therefrom Truly, We shall exact retribution from the guilty." (Surah As-Sajdah 32:22)

It makes no difference whether such violations are committed as a joke, in seriousness or out of fear, except when done under compulsion (i.e. from threat of loss of life )

We seek refuge in Allaah from such deeds as entail His wrath and severe punishment.Ameen...

  For your boss, the earlier "hardworking" guy suddenly seems tobecome a  
 "early leaver" even if u leave an hour after regular time... after

  People leaving on time after doing their tasks for the day are labelled  
 as  work-shirkers. ..                                                      
                                                                           
                                                                           
                                                                           
  Girls who thankfully always (its changing nowadays... though) leave on  
                                                                           
  time are labelled as "not up to it". All the while, the bachelors pat    
 their own backs and carry on "working" not realizing that they r          
 spoiling   the work culture at their own place and never realize that

  So what's the moral of the story??                                      
                                                                           
  * Very clear, LEAVE ON TIME!!!                                          
                                                                           
  * Never put in extra time " unless really needed "                      
                                                                           
  * Don't stay back unnecessarily and spoil your company work culture      
 which  will in turn cause inconvenience to you and your colleagues.      
                                                                           
                                                                           
                                                                           
  There are hundred other things to do in the evening..                    
                                                                           
                                                                           
                                                                           
  Learn music...                                                          
                                                                           
  Learn a foreign language...                                              
                                                                           
  Try a sport... TT, cricket..... ....                                      
                                                                           
                                                                           
  Importantly, get a girl friend or boy friend, take him/her around town...
                                                                           
                                                                           
                                                                           
  * And for heaven's sake, net cafe rates have dropped to an all-time low  
 (plus, no fire-walls) and try cooking for a change.                      
                                                                           
  Take a tip from the Smirnoff ad: *"Life's calling, where are

  IT'S A TYPICAL INDIAN MENTALITY THAT WORKING FOR LONG HOURS MEANS VERY  
                                                                           
  HARD WORKING & 100% COMMITMENT ETC.                                      
                                                                           
                                                                           
  PEOPLE WHO REGULARLY SIT LATE IN THE OFFICE DON'T KNOW TO MANAGE THEIR  
 TIME. With the news of end of Osama, people have been giving different types of responses, some amusing, some really thoughtful while some childish. I have my own selection of some striking responses that i have come across. Here are a few of them:

  To the US Army: It means no Visa required to enter any part of Pakistan and kill any one.

  To the Pakistani people : No place is safe in Pakistan any more

  To the Al Qa'eeda : Who will be the next bin Laden, because the battle is lost yet the war continues....

  To the Hollywood : A new subject theme for Rambos, James Bond, Spider man, Bat man, ......

 For the Media: Who will give us more TRPs and Readerships now!

  To the American President Obama: An opportunity to be reelected in the Whilte House

  To the Future American Presidents to be: Laden is dead, so lets us find a new villian to fight

  To the American Citizens : Now who will be the next ghost that the Goverment will use to frighten us when ever and election is around the corner?

 To the American Government: Phew ! a very expensive enemy. 1.4 Trillions of $ US of expendtiure,24 thousand of dead soldiers, 56 thousand  handicapped and injred soldiers and 1.5 Trillions dollars of debt.

 To the US soldiers : Can we go home now?

 To the Mujahideen :  No you cannot go back home now.The battle maybe lost  but the war still  continues....

Revenge of an Ex-wife

She spent the first day packing her belongings into boxes, crates and suitcases.

On the second day, she had the movers come and collect her things.

On the third day, she sat down for the last time at their beautiful dining room table by candlelight, put on some soft background music and feasted on a pound of shrimp, a jar of caviar and a bottle of Chardonnay.

When she had finished, she went into each and every room and deposited a few half-eaten shrimp dipped in caviar, into the hollow of the curtain rods.

She then cleaned up the kitchen and left.

When the husband returned with his new girlfriend, all was bliss for the first few days. Then slowly, the house began to smell. They tried everything; cleaning, mopping and airing the place out.

Vents were checked for dead rodents and carpets were steamed. Air Fresheners were hung everywhere. Exterminators were brought in to set off gas canisters, during which they had to move out for a few days, and in the end even paid to replace the expensive wool carpeting.

Nothing worked. People stopped coming over to visit. Repairmen refused to work in the house. The maid quit.

Finally, they could not take the stench any longer and decided to move.

A month later, even though they had cut their price in half, they could not find a buyer for their stinky house. Word got out and eventually even the local realtors refused to return
their calls.

Finally, they had to borrow a huge sum of money from the bank to purchase a new place.

The ex-wife called the man and asked how things were going. He told her the saga of the rotting house. She listened politely and said that she missed her old home terribly, and would be willing to reduce her divorce settlement in exchange for getting the house back.

Knowing his ex-wife had no idea how bad t he smell was, he agreed on a Price that was about 1/10th of what the house had been worth, but only if she were to sign the papers that very day.

She agreed and within the hour his lawyers delivered the paperwork.

A week later the man and his girlfriend stood smiling as they watched the moving company pack everything to take to their new home....
